INDIGNATION
CHINA-TIBET CRISIS (April-May 2008)
• Translated from french to english by our team
Dear governments, media and demonstrators supporting the Tibetan cause,
Following the severe repression of the tibetan demonstrators by the Chinese authorities, you stepped into the breach to denounce in a very vigorous way this repression made regardless of Democracy and Human Rights. In fact, one counts many deaths where conventional means should have been simply employed to preserve the citizens’ rights to express themselves.
That is intolerable and “Mister Kpakpato” which is attached to the question of the Human Rights, Peace and Solidarity in the world would like to thank you for your solidarity action to attract the attention of the whole world to a very recurring phenomenom in China: That of the groping of Democracy and Human Rights in this country and more singularly the bloody repression of any kind of citizens demonstration against government. In a recent past (i.e. in 1989), it was the massacre of students at the Tien-An-Men Square. Today, it is the same bloody repression of tibetan demonstrators, i.e. people as you and me which believe in Democracy and its virtues. How far does this regime intend to go in its vain attempt to stop something that is in anyway inevitable: the Democracy? From that point of view, you and me, we completely see eye to eye.
However, “Mister Kpakpato” would like to mark here his firm disapproval as for your amalgams between the question of the Olympic Games 2008 and the political situation in China. Of course the Olympic Games were often used in the past to protest against a few political regimes but if I am not mistaken, it was at the time of the “Cold war”, which one has been fortunately completed! Anyway, this practice never received the adhesion of real Sport-lovers which consider this domain as a field designed around a certain number of virtues. It is the reason for which one prohibits racism, doping and other practices compared to cheating. Simply because the purists will say that Sport in general and singularly the Olympic Games must remain sane.
Sport is one of the rare domains in the world where one can really have fun (since it is above all a game) while forgetting the least bit incongruities of our world which the politicians have corrupted. Then, making such amalgams between a field as rassemblor and healthy as Sport and Politics with all its spites is something intolerable. China badly acted in Tibet while deciding voluntarily to be unaware of the elementary rules of Democracy and Human Rights, that it is an undeniable fact.
But from that using the argument of Olympic Games 2008 to try “to harm chinese authorities” is compared much more to an attempt of settling of scores to an emergent country whose Western countries obviously fear the irruption on the international scene. And I fear that you are not enough sincere in your protests when you hold up Human rights notion. Simply because a real defender of Human Rights never makes adaptable militancy. He always acts with constancy! And “Mister Kpakpato” is firmly against any form of “instrumentalisation” of the invaluable question of Human rights!
I certainly stand by tibetan people in the drama they have just lived but what would you answer if I said for example that the repeated interventions of the Israeli Army in Gaza makes more deaths and creates more misery than repression in Tibet? That France which does not obstruct itself to show its determination to boycott the Opening ceremony because “Defender N°1 of Human Rights” made in 2004 in my country an intolerable massacre while citizens demonstrated peacefully in order to avoid the otherthrow of the government by french soldiers having established their camp only a few stone’s throw away from the residence of the President? That millions Cuba citizens are deprived, because of USA administrations, of the minimum living wage which can preserve their human dignity? That a similar embargo of the same american Administrations on IRAQ caused each day the death of thousands of Iraqi children before dealing the death-blow to the whole country finally in 2003? And that finally and without the list being exhaustive, the Human Rights do not exist today any more in IRAQ because of the same american Administration?
Unfortunately, on all these crimes committed from under our very eyes, it is hardly if you denounce. Simply because you are scared when it comes to denouncing a “giga-country” like USA and also their Allies. But China is not a Western country and as it is not yet enough influential then it is easier to act where that hurts more: yesterday it was Taiwan and today Tibet.
But given that in anyway your well-calculated action at least has the merit of telling China off as far as Human Rights question is concerned, then go ahead! “Mister Kpakpato” and all the “World Citizens” support you in the principle of denouncing violations of the Human rights (and not of the amalgams with the Olympic Games). But once you will have finished with the tibetan crisis, do not forget to join us on our network so that we can be together also active when we’ll have to denounce with the same heat many other violations of Democracy and Human Rights in the world.
So long!
Dear Chinese Authorities,
Following a protest movement in Tibet on the question of the independence of this province, your police force appeared guilty of serious violations of the Human Rights because once again the repression of these demonstrations led to the death of several people. Even you admitted officially the fact that demonstrators met their death during those unhappy incidents. For lack of objective elements and not to fall into a vain polemic which will do nothing but elude the real stakes of this regrettable subject, I will not encourage the battle of the figures between your brothers Tibetans and you the last weeks. The most important for me as a militant of Human Rights is that a civilian demonstration has caused deaths because of the lack of self-control from your police force. The life of a human being having no price, my indignation is not related to the number of deaths. Even only one victim is too more and “Mister Kpakpato” would like to express his firm disapproval against the methods of repressions which you often use in order to try to dissuade everyone who would like to claim you more Democracy. The unhappy incidents of the place Tien-An-Men in 1989 have forever remained engraved in our memory.
As far as Tibet is concerned, I would like to assure you that I am fundamentally against secessions or independence claims because not only that is prohibited by the Charter of United Nations Organization (UNO) to which I subscribe entirely, but also secessions and independence claims are a serious danger to the stability of the countries and thus to Peace in the world. However, I suppose that if Tibet (one of your provinces) claims so much its independence, that means you did not succeed completely in integrating Tibetans in your political, social and economic system. Your project of a “Great Chinese Nation” has perhaps been short of a “Participative Democracy” policy which could make that Tibetans feel really concerned. So, they claim their own identity and thus independence, supported by “Foreign Powers” which consider Tibet question as a kind of “Achilles’ tendon” for you. That is a simple supposition. But in the final analysis, it belongs to you to interest the Tibetans in the implementation of your “Chinese Nation” project.
Dear Authorities, be aware that such a question can never be settled by using force. But rather by a permanent and patient dialogue. So “Mister Kpakpato” exhort you to resume dialogue with your brothers (Tibetans) where you left it because when there is no more dialogue, damage is in this case inevitable, let me tell you! And sincerely that is what we wish neither for one nor for the other.
Moreover, this Tibetan question gives me above all the opportunity to point out your duty of total democratization of your country. Until now you have made a lot of efforts more people appreciate but that remains insufficient as long as opponents cannot express themselves freely. “Mister Kpakpato” knows China attaches great value to Peace, international Justice and Solidarity since this country took part in the independence of the “Third World” countries. So it is not normal that China drag behind as far as Democracy is concerned. You must rather give the example. Do not worry much more about the fact that the Occident could use your opponents to scuttle your ambitions. In any case, be reassured that “Mister Kpakpato” and the “World Citizens” remain completely vigilant on this question. “Mister Kpakpato” will never give quarter neither with the imperialist countries nor with their many relays. I know what I am talking about. But so that you and “Mister Kpakpato” can completely see eye to eye, you must share the same value which enables someone like him to speak freely and defend by the strength of his pen and ideas all the aberrations and incongruities of our world. And this value is called simply Democracy. It is the only thing which gives Freedom to think and express oneself. Let me tell you that if our Humanity lived through ages while becoming more advanced, it is certainly thanks to Democracy. Think about this because wisdom is not only African but also Chinese.
